Marianna + John. Canterbury Chapel and Starmount Forest Wedding.

August 22, 2020

Like many couples this year, Marianna + John had to change from their original wedding plans this spring to something a little different, and later in the year. And then change again to something different, and smaller … And then change again until it was finally settled on a wedding of just their two immediate families – less than 15 people. I know it had to be frustrating but every time Marianna emailed me with an update on the plans, her tone was so sweet and her outlook so positive. She and John truly just wanted to be married and didn’t have to have the huge wedding with an audience. I loved that so much about them. Something else I loved, though, was that although it was scaled down to a tiny number of people, they still did everything just like a normal wedding day and it was so fun! A full day of photography coverage, getting ready at the hotel, professional hair and makeup, fun transportation, beautiful decor, and ended with a grand exit full of bubbles and a getaway in a vintage car. Both sides of the family were so kind and generous and it was such an honor to be part of this sweet, intimate affair!

Some of my favorite things about Marianna + John’s wedding day :

All the fun transportation! A limo, a trolley, and a gorgeous vintage car were all part of taking the family to the different locations and I know it was so nice for everyone to stay together rather than having to take separate vehicles everywhere.

Marianna’s sweet little flower girl nieces. They kept everyone entertained all day long and were SO good despite the long day of preparation and missed naps. Bravo, girls!

The zoom call with all the bridesmaids after Marianna got dressed. I know they all wished they could be there but we still got some precious tear-filled photos while they ooh-ed and aah-ed over the bride!

The way John’s parents smiled as they watched their two sons get ready for the ceremony was so heartfelt and beautiful. It made me flash forward to the day one of my sons will get married! Cue the tears.

All the toasts! There were champagne (or sparkling water) cheers on the trolley and longer, more thoughtful toasts during the reception and they were all so meaningful! One of my favorite photos is of Marianna + John on the trolley, leaning on each other and looking at their rings. I live for those unscripted moments!

Working with some of my favorite people again! My long time friend, Carla Durbin, on hair and makeup and my favorite second photographer, Anna Varnedoe, shooting with me. We have all been friends for so long but don’t get to work together much anymore and it was just the best.
